Starting line in game

For my role in the game I had to make one of the cart models, as well as various decorations that were scattered around the course.

Cat Cart Model

The Cat Cart is, simply put, a cat-themed cart. When we were concepting it, the idea was a “homebuilt cart with a cat’s favorite things" - it’s a box and cat tower attached to a RV car, with the controller as the steering wheel.

Saw Models

Originally the saws were designed to be moving obstacles that the player would have to dodge on the course. However, due to time constraints, they turned into background pieces. So, while still low poly, they are a bit more detailed than what I normally would do for a background piece that player wouldn’t focus on.

Environment Models

The course in our game is a cartoon beaver run sawmill in the middle of a forest, so I created a few low poly models that could be scattered around - three funky pine trees, chicken-wire fences, and grass.

Looking Back

Critter Crashers was the second game I had ever made with a team, but my first time being a dedicated environment artist. I had realized at this point that I wanted to specialize in environment art, and it was a pretty rough first go at it. I cringe every time I see the grass model, and how it somehow managed to have more faces that most of the tree models.

But this game was a good experience, and taught me a lot about environment art and what it takes. This game also gave me much needed experience working in a project with a sizable team and the communication required. Overall, this game was a great experience, even if there is a lot I would change.
